Gardenpedia

Gardenpedia is a Romanian-based company specialized in selling gardening merchandise, equipment and accessories for all gardening enthusiasts. The core business model is to offer a wide range of quality products at affordable prices (more than 3000 products being permanently on stock)

Gardenpedia and AYG have had a long history working together. In 2015, we started the support of their then existing store where we modified the theme to make it more responsive alongside cleaning the project from numerous bugs and bad practices. Their Magento 1 store was brought to a stable edition, but definitely needed a boost.

Hence, we saw an opportunity to take things to the next level and we initially started an upgrade from their Magento 1 version to Magento Commerce 2.1. version.
And going back in time, that came with its own share of challenges since core bugs were a given back at the time. 🙂

Task

AYG's challenge was to create a secure, fast, and functional online store from scratch.

THE SOLUTION

Gardenpedia - the brand new system.

Gardenpedia has everything someone needs to start their gardening hobby, or business. Thus, our main objective was to create a modern, user-friendly, and secure online store that offers a seamless digital commerce experience to all users.

Gardenpedia was built on Magento Open Source 2.1., back at the time.

First of all, since this was a Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration project, we needed to ensure all the essential data was taken over to the new website, including customer data, order details, custom extensions, and so on.

One of the main challenges we had was the catalog search for which we implemented ElasticSearch for a quick and performant experience.

Gardenpedia strived to be the go-to place that gardening enthusiasts go for information and counselling. Thus, we integrated Magento with WordPress and made it easier for the team to add and manage content. Moreover, we created a seamless blog-to-cart user experience and increased SEO in the process.

On top of that, we integrated the shop with various 3rd party modules, which we also extended to meet the client’s specific needs.

Back in 2018, mobile usage was expected to grow significantly, thus, AYG created an Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) theme based on e-commerce usage insights.

Implementing AMP, we achieved a significantly faster load on all mobile and tablet devices. We also improved search engine visibility and store ranking in Mobile Google Search Results.

We created the design based on the KISS approach, keep it short and simple, to deliver an optimized digital commerce experience with a modern design that makes shopping more convenient for gardening enthusiasts.

Currently, Gardenpedia is on a support retainer in order to further extend the shop’s functionality.

We are monitoring and continuously improving the online store and executing project plans that address front-end, back-end, and customer-facing issues.
